Maggie Gaan

Associate

Maggie GaanCriminal defense practice is often looked at as a “calling,” and that is exactly how Maggie Gaan views her professional life in defending the accused and often voiceless in the courtroom.

Prior to joining Bonjour, Thorman, Burns & Dahm, Maggie clerked for the San Diego Public Defender’s Office in the felony and juvenile divisions where she developed her love for the courtroom, representing indigent clients on a variety of cases. Maggie began her career learning from two of the top criminal defense attorneys in San Diego, Jose Garza Badillo and Victor M. Torres, now a Commissioner for the San Diego County Superior Court. She gained extensive experience working in both federal and state criminal defense on a variety of cases including domestic violence, human trafficking and drug smuggling. Early in her professional development, Maggie assisted Mr. Badillo with an appeal for a man serving 50 years to life in prison on a murder conviction that was overturned, granting him a new trial.

Thereafter, Maggie relocated back to the Bay Area where she honed in on her skills in DUI Defense. Currently, Maggie handles a variety of misdemeanor cases and also assists with the firm’s most serious criminal cases involving homicide and sexual abuse allegations. She has committed herself to representing the accused with care and compassion, while providing a competent and assertive defense for her clients.

After earning her Bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University, Maggie obtained her Juris Doctor from Thomas Jefferson School of Law. Maggie was born and raised in San Mateo, California. She is married, loves to travel and is an avid Golden State Warriors fan.
