Lee Maranto brings excellent client advocacy and big heart to his work at Bonjour, Thorman, Burns and Dahm. Lee’s approach to his advocacy for his clients involves taking the necessary time to get all the facts of someone’s circumstances and asking important questions. He uses these same skills in the courtroom and as a result he has been able to achieve great outcomes for his clients. Lee has a diverse legal background, most recently coming from private practice as a litigator of probate and estate matters and criminal law. Lee has been an attorney for 10 years and has focused the last 5 years almost exclusively on DUI defense in his criminal practice. Lee has gotten dismissals for his clients as well as prevailed in DMV hearings to help his clients avoid license suspensions.
As a law student, Lee served as an extern for two years at the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office where he supported felony attorneys in all phases of the criminal process from initial investigation to trial. While there, Lee drafted and successfully argued a 995 motion which prevented his client from being convicted of a strike offense. Lee’s passion for criminal defense was cemented with the work he performed at the public defender’s office.
Lee has spent his entire adult life advocating for disenfranchised and marginalized communities. His first passion in doing this work came after college when Lee began his career in higher education in the field of Student Affairs. He left that work to pursue law school in order to have a more direct role in advocating for those in need. While still in law school, Lee was hired to serve as the Independent Hearing Officer (IHO) for the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs at UC Berkeley. Lee worked as a hearing officer on student conduct cases and remained for over four years before opening his private practice. In the role of IHO, Lee gained invaluable experience in overseeing hearings pertaining to sexual assault cases and Title IX investigations. Thus, he is a subject matter expert on this topic.
Lee is originally from Southern California and enjoys going back to visit his friends and family. When not in the office, Lee enjoys spending time with his two children, pursuing his own self-growth, exploring the Bay Area’s best eateries and playing Texas Hold’ Em. He lives in Oakland.
